Sadly, the fact that the owner of "Safe House" never called me when Jarrod died, did not attend his funeral or even send me a condolence card shocked me considering he was Jarrod's sponsor. As Jarrod's mom, it made me wonder why.
I made several attempt to get some of my tough questions answered but to no avail.
It was then that I started to investigate the situation myself. What I discovered horrified me. The owner the "Safe House" had habitually violated the Los Angeles Building and Safety codes in all 3 "Safe Houses" he owns. The owner was cited for housing people in his back yards FOR YEARS!!!!!. He was cited a number of times prior to Jarrod's death and even after Jarrod died...he did it again.
I was also horrified to discover that Jarrod had a not died until 11 a.m.
His body was not discovered until 2:00
There was suppose to be a bed check at 8 am.
Jarrod's girlfriend had been calling "Safe House" all morning long.
Had Jarrod been housed in the main house he would have been heard or discovered.
I pleaded with the Los Angeles Sober Living Coalition to facilitate a grievance process and I was ignored 9 times. Perhaps the fact that the owner of "Safe House" was a board member was the reason.
Nevertheless, I was forced to bring a civil action against the owner of "Safe House" as it is now the only way to get answers to my tough questions.
A jury trial date is set for April 5th 2010. Van Nuys California, Superior Court. Judge Glennon presiding.
